Maher Zain Biography

Maher Zain, a Lebanese-Swedish R&B singer and music producer, gained international success with his debut album “Thank You Allah” in 2009, produced by Awakening Records. His follow-up albums, “Forgive Me” in 2012 and “One” in 2016, continued to showcase his talent and musical contributions.

Maher Zain’s family moved from Lebanon to Sweden when he was eight years old. After completing his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering, he ventured into the music industry in Sweden. In 2005, he collaborated with the Swedish producer RedOne. Following RedOne’s move to New York in 2006, Maher Zain joined him, continuing his career in the United States and producing for artists like Kat DeLuna.

Upon returning to Sweden, Zain reconnected with his Islamic faith, prompting a shift in his career. He decided to transition from being a music producer to becoming a singer/songwriter in the contemporary R&B genre with a strong Islamic influence.

In January 2009, Maher Zain collaborated with Awakening Records to create his debut album, “Thank You Allah.” Released on November 1, 2009, the album featured 13 songs and two bonus tracks. Zain and Awakening Records effectively utilized platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and iTunes for promotion. The album gained widespread popularity, especially in Arabic-speaking and Islamic countries, as well as among young Muslims in the West.

By the end of 2010, Maher Zain became the most searched celebrity in Malaysia. Malaysia and Indonesia saw significant commercial success for him, with “Thank You Allah” being certified multiple platinum by Warner Music Malaysia and Sony Music Indonesia, becoming the top-selling album in Malaysia for 2010.

Zain primarily sings in English but has released some of his popular songs in various languages, such as “Insha Allah” available in English, French, Arabic, Turkish, Malay, and Indonesian versions. Another song, “Allahi Allah Kiya Karo,” is in Urdu and features the Canadian singer Irfan Makki. Maher Zain has performed concerts globally and has fan clubs in countries like Malaysia, Egypt, and Morocco. In 2013, he participated in the judging committee for the Awakening Talent Contest, aimed at discovering new stars for Awakening Records.
